Belt Construction Hwy 84 Project

Belt Construction reached out to Twisted Nail during the Hwy 84 project when they needed a reliable supplier for a wide range of materials. This marked the first time Twisted Nail worked with Belt Construction, but it quickly expanded into three simultaneous projects, including Flat Rock Road and Brazos Basin. The initial plan was to provide materials like TxDot Spec Road Base, #57 Limestone, Pit Run, Select Fill, and Bull Rock, but as the project progressed, we exceeded the originally planned tonnage.

Belt Construction provided around-the-clock notice for material deliveries, but flexibility was essential. Twisted Nail had to address last-minute requests and resolve challenges, such as sourcing alternate pits when suppliers ran low or testing delays occurred. Despite limited space for trucks to turn around and concerns from a nearby neighborhood, Twisted Nail’s team successfully handled every logistical hurdle, even when a truck pulled down a utility pole by accident.

As the project advanced, the original estimate for haul-offs was surpassed, with more than 650 loads of dirt, rock, asphalt, and concrete being removed from the site.

The team sourced:

  • TxDot Spec Road Base: 3,000 tons
  • #57 Limestone: 500 tons
  • Pit Run: 6,500 tons
  • Select Fill: 25 tons
  • 1×3 Bull Rock: 300 tons
  • 3×5 Bull Rock: 50 tons

Each material had to meet stringent City of Waco testing requirements. Twisted Nail played a hands-on role in delivering samples to testing facilities, ensuring materials passed the necessary standards. A third-party testing company was also hired to oversee daily installations and on-site testing.
